Serge Jolimeau, born in 1952 and apprenticed under Seresier Louis-Juste, he joined centre d'art in 1972, where he met his mentor Murat Brierre. He stands out as one of the most gifted metal; sculptors of his generation.

 

This piece is hammered metal with some cut and pierced decoration. It has an incised signature. Original labels to the reverse In the Croix des Bouquets neighborhood of Haiti, metal, fire and muscle come together to make lithe mermaid goddesses, mythic lovers and radiant sunbursts.

 

Because these images often come from Haiti’s voudou tradition, which blends West African Yoruba religion and French Catholicism, Croix des Bouquet metalwork has earned an important place in Haiti’s cultural milieu.
